| Let us introduce you to Dr. Baker |
|
An experienced,
board-certified orthopedic surgeon, James Baker
previously practiced in Chalmette, LA (St.
Bernard Parish), a suburban area just east of
New Orleans. Unfortunately, hurricane Katrina
caused severe damage to much of the parish -
damage that will literally take years just to
clean up. Dr. Baker’s practice, like that of
thousands of other physicians in the hardest hit
areas east of New Orleans and on the Mississippi
gulf coast, was washed away with Katrina. With
the gracious help of local physicians, he and
his family have begun a new life in the Hill
Country.
Dr.
Baker kicked off his new practice, Lone Star
Orthopedics, to treat patients for all varieties
of general orthopedic disorders. He shares office space and
staff with Hill Country Sports Medicine,
conveniently located in the Professional
Building, next to Central Texas Medical Center,
Suite 100.

Dr. Baker is no stranger
to Texas and the South. After graduating summa
cum laude from Tulane in Biology, he received
his M.D. degree from Tulane School of Medicine
(’88), and then completed an orthopedic surgery
residency at Baylor in Houston. He then traveled
to San Antonio and subsequently to Keesler AFB,
MS to serve four years in the Air Force to pay
back a military scholarship to medical school
before beginning his practice in Louisiana.
Dr. Baker is a member of
Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Omega
Alpha Medical Honor Society, is a fellow of the
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, as
well as a lifetime member of the American
Medical Association. He has been active in
organized medicine, having served as president
of the St. Bernard Parish Medical Society as
well as serving on the Louisiana State Medical
Society Council on Legislation and Insurance
Committee. In 1994 he re-certified in the 94th
percentile, that is in the top 6% of all
orthopedists, with the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgeons.
During his training he
co-authored several articles in the medical
literature. The articles are listed in his
curriculum vitae below.
His wife Diana is a
television journalist and producer. They have
one 26 year old son.
Dr. Baker promises rapid
appointments for patients and written feedback
to consulting physicians. He hopes to hear from
you soon!
A note from Dr. Baker:
"I can't thank the people of Texas
enough for the outpouring of generosity and sympathy not only to my family, but
to everyone affected in Louisiana, many much more so than I. There are so many
big things in Texas, but nothing so big as the hearts of the strong and
compassionate people of the Lone Star state."
Many people have asked Dr.
Baker what his office was like after Katrina. If you're interested we've
attached a few of his photos from October 1, 2005 in a web photo gallery.
